Post Harry Potter Lock In Fever, part 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — lanaquin @ 2:00 pm

…Continued from yesterday’s post about the first part of the night.

10:00 p.m. Gryffindor Finds the Golden Snitch

As a part of the House Cup, a golden snitch was hidden somewhere in the library, and the houses were given the task of finding it at some point in the night. Like a true game of Quidditch, seekers took up the challenge and scoured the library for the snitch. As the Horcrux Scavenger Hunt came to an end, it was finally found! A Gryffindor house member found the snitch nestled in between two audiobooks, and her housemates lifted her up in celebration! 50 points to Gryffindor!

11:00 p.m. Free Time

After the excitment of the Horcrux Hunt and the finding of the snitch, more free time was had. The forbidden forest was opened, and students were able to hang out in the forest or go into Hagrid’s Hut to make their own magical creatures. The other shops remained open. Here are some students making wands in Ollivander’s Wand Shop with Luna Lovegood.

12:00 a.m. O.W.L. Jeopardy

At midnight the next challenge of the House Cup began, O.W.L. Jeopardy featuring trivia about Harry Potter and the whole wizarding world. The houses battled eachother, putting their minds together to answer the tough and not-so-tough questions. Here’s one: The Order of the Knights Templar was the inspiration for this group in the Harry Potter books. Do you know the answer, er, I mean question?

3:00 a.m. Hufflepuff Wins the House Cup!

After the houses competed in the final House Cup challenge, Quidditch practice, the winner was determined! Hufflepuff won the House Cup with 370 points! Here we are celebrating, goooooooo Hufflepuff! More free time was to follow, as students watched the movies still rolling in the meeting room, played on the computers or even got some rest.

6:00 a.m. Breakfast at the Three Broomsticks

After gathering the students that were still awake and rousing those that had actually gotten some rest, a line formed at the Three Broomsticks as the night’s snacks were picked up and breakfast was served.

7:00 a.m. Departure

After a great night, the time finally came to go home. The students slowly filed out as we picked everything up. We gathered our things to leave ourselves, and look who we found! Mr. Chase almost made it to the very end…

As you can tell, we had an amazing night! If you were there, please leave a comment. Let us know how you enjoyed the night–tell us your favorite part, what you would change or just say hi. If you weren’t able to come, be sure to look out for lock ins in the future. We definitely plan to have more!

Until next time!

Post Harry Potter Lock In Fever, part 1

Filed under: Uncategorized — lanaquin @ 5:00 pm

Now that we’ve had some time to recover from our all-night Harry Potter-thon at the library a few weekends ago, I feel like it’s appropriate to give you all a recap of the night’s grand adventures. Split into two parts, because it was 12 WHOLE HOURS. Too much Harry Potter fun to fit into one little blog post. Ok, here we go!

 7:00 p.m. The Beginning

Ms. Lauren and myself, Layla, took care of the signing in as Ms. Andree got snap shots of the arriving teens, capturing some really great costumes and smiling faces! The room slowly filled with eager Hogwarts students, and the excitement built for the adventure ahead. Once everyone arrived, we briefly went over the house rules (be nice, have fun) and explained the schedule for the night.

8:00 p.m. The Sorting

The group was then led into the Great Hall. One-by-one, the new Hogwart students met the sorting hat and found out which house they were in and would be competing with for the House Cup. The house members gathered at tables near their house banners. RAVENCLAW!!! And the crowd cheers! SLYTHERIN!!! GRYFFINDOR!! HUFFLEPUFF!!

Ms. Taylor as Luna Lovegood and two of the house prefects, Ms. Lauren and Mr. Chase, oversaw the sorting, leading cheers as new house members were determined!

9:00 p.m. Free Time

a.k.a. free reign! Hogwarts students wandered about, visiting the shops of Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. Here are a few students making parchment notebooks and feather quills with Ms. Brenda in the Scribbulus Writing Implements shop! Some of the other shops and activities were invisible ink at Zonko’s Joke Shop, golden snitch making in Quality Quidditch Supplies and a chess room!

  9:30 p.m. Trolly Cart Passing

The Honeydukes trolly cart arrived! Ms. Marci didn’t get very far before being swarmed by hungry Hogwarts students. There were so many goodies, chocolate frogs, Bertie Bott’s every flavor beans, cauldron cakes and more!

WOW! Only two and a half hours in! 🙂

To be continued…

Harry Potter Lock-In Invitation and Permission Slip

I’m sure you’re curious, what exactly will we be doing ALL NIGHT at the library? Here is a little run down to get you as excited as we are:

The night will be jam-packed with Harry Potter fun! After laying out the simple ground rules (Be respectful! Have fun!), the sorting hat will split everyone into houses.

Throughout the night, the houses will compete in a variety of challenges that will give them points toward the House Cup.

In the Horcrux Scavenger Hunt, houses will receive clues that describe the horcruxes and where they can be found within the library. Houses will work together to solve the clue, find the horcrux and receive the next clue.

In O.W.L. Jeopardy, your knowledge of the wizarding world will be put to the test. Houses will compete in a variety of categories, including Death Eaters, Quidditch, Movies, Locations, Enchanted Objects, Magical Creatures and more.

During Quidditch Practice, houses will have to toss a quaffles through goal posts to receive points.

Finally, take a cue from Harry Potter and the other seekers and pay attention to your surroundings through the night. There will be a golden snitch fluttering somewhere within the library, and the first house to find it will receive 50 points toward the house cup!

And that’s not all! In between the challenges, you will be allowed to roam free and watch the Harry Potter movie marathon, make wands in Ollivander’s Wand Shop, create magical creatures in Hagrid’s Hut, make parchment notebooks in Scribbulus Writing Implements, decorate golden snitches in Quality Quidditch Supplies, make invisible ink in Zonko’s Joke Shop, play chess, read the Harry Potter books or just relax in the Forbidden Forrest or your house common room!

Don’t think we forgot snacks. Catch the trolly cart passing and get your beans, cauldron cakes, licorice wands, chocolate covered frogs and butter beer!
