Totemo Kuru!!! (So Cool!)

Filed under: art, award winners, awesomeness, graphic novels, manga, movies — violettayls @ 4:45 am

Hey it’s Tayls again! =D

For those who don’t know, I am a HUGE, extra-gooberific fan of *Hayao Miyazaki’s art, films, words, you name it! I have been aware for a while that He–and I must capitalize His pronouns because He is so godlike–has been working on a *Studio Ghibli remake of  The Borrowers. Now, for those of you who remember The Borrowers, you may be skeptical of a remake. But I assure you that your doubts are unneeded because He will do the story great justice. With His flawless animation, beautifully complex artwork, and AMAZING directing, this movie is one to look out for. The US is due for an English dubb release some time soon and a new UK trailer has already been released!

Also! Hayao Miyazaki and his son, Goro are collaborating on yet ANOTHER new film for Studio Ghibli that has, until now, been virtually unheard of. (And I am an avid follower of all his work.) It’s a film adaption of a 1980 2-volume manga by Tetsuro Sayama, and the official English title is From Up on Poppy Hill. I am SUPER excited as it will be following the format of one of my personal faves by Miyazaki, Whisper of the Heart. (It’s sort of a realistic drama, with a sprinkle of hinted-at romance and a heaping pile of well-paced mystery.)

*Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan’s greatest animation directors. Co-founded Studio Ghibli in 1985 with Isao Takahata. Now Walt Disney Company has international rights for all films produced and released by Studio Ghibli. Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Ponyo are the newest movies released in the US.

Many of us are waiting with baited breath for the release of Stephanie Meyer’s latest, and sadly, last installment in her Twilight series. The library has quite a few on order, so place your hold now!

While you are waiting to devour Breaking Dawn, here are some ways to bide your time…

Read the first chapter of Midnight Sun, the tale told from Edward’s perspective.

Discuss the story in as much nit picky detail as you wish with like minded souls in the Twilight Lexicon forums.

Pour over Stephanie Meyer’s website.

Twilight Movie!

Filed under: books, movies — Tags: , — SCPL Teens @ 11:38 am

Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight is now a movie! Am I the last to know this??? Here’s the preview. Watch it with reckless abandon. If you are at the library, this may not play, but you can watch it at home. Enjoy!

Check out this video: Twilight

Read about it on Stephanie Meyer’s Website!

“Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because–he’s a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.

At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward’s sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst.”
