Library eBooks for FREE

Well, of course they are free because you borrow them!!!

Here is how borrowing e-books at the library works.

  1. Get a library card
  2. Get an e-book compatible device (smart phone, nook, Sony eReader, others)
  3. Go to our website and find this icon:
  4. Follow the instructions!

If you have any trouble, just call our staff at one of the library’s locations.

If you don’t know what e-readers and e-books are, you can learn more in January’s Bookpage (that’s the library newsletter found at all library branches.)

Books + internet = even more awesome than books OR internet!

Filed under: awesomeness, books, fanfiction, new books, writing — SCPL Teens @ 4:02 pm

Heard of fan fiction? Ever wish fan fiction could be published as a real book?

Listening to NPR this morning I heard about a new mystery series  called The Amanda Project.  New student Amanda Valentino has brought together three strangers, Callie, Nia and Hal, as her guides when she arrives as at their school. Soon, Amanda has  graffitied the principal’s car, left cryptic notes in her friends’ lockers and disappeared. Why did she lie about her past and why did she vanish? Callie narrates this tale of secrets and confusing clues. And there is a TWIST.

What makes this series unique is that readers create the stories through interacting on a companion website.  You create a character whose collaboration with others on the Amanda Project website help form the story lines for the books.  As you delve deeper into sub plots and intrigue while solving weekly mysteries, the books’ creators reap your material for the books. Here’s a question. Do you get credit?

Book one, Invisible I, will be available in our library sometime in January. Look for the second book, Revealed, this spring!

Inside The Teenage Brain

Filed under: interesting — SCPL Teens @ 6:46 pm

I found this in the most recent Parade magazine– the little magazine that  comes in Sunday’s newspaper.

Can you guess this woman’s emotion?  Evidently, only 50% of teens get the answer right.

Donate to clear your library fines!

Filed under: food for fines — SCPL Teens @ 5:00 pm

In celebration of Children’s Book Week we are sponsoring the Food for Fines program to conduct a food drive for the St. Charles Parish Food Bank.  For the month of November the Library will accept a food donation in lieu of money, so for every $1.00 worth of fines you can donate an item of food.

This year the Food Bank has asked for donations of canned milk, canned fruit, small bags of rice, cereals, grits, small jars of jelly or jam, small cans of meat, any type of dried beans, and any other non-perishable food items.  Our Food Bank is now in dire need, so please consider donating food as an alternative way to clear your fines.
